About The Film
A science fiction thriller proof-of-concept short film in the vein of Terminator 1 meets Jet Li's The One with a hint of Rick and Morty.
A scorned psychotic killer from an alternate reality, Thærf is on a quest to hunt down and destroy every version of her ex, Jacob, throughout the multiverse and take her revenge on him for the death of her world.
A single soldier alt of Jacob has stolen her transport pod and seeks to defend every alt of himself from the deadly Thærf.
Director's Statement
They say you should make the kind of movie you would want to see. That is exactly what I have done with THÆRF!
I have always been fascinated by both the multiverse and time travel as narrative devices, and with stories that take us away from our reality. The character of Thærf has come along way since her inception in 2015.
Thærf was first created by myself and my team in 2015 as part of a 48-hour competition. That original short film, OFF THE CUFF, was more of a fun sci-fi comedy, but I liked what we had created so much that I held onto it.
In 2017 Thærf came out to play again, in the form of a pilot for a series that would have been called THE DARKEST TIMELINE, in reference to one of my favorite TV shows. This pilot was also a fun sci-fi comedy, but it expanded more on the character, the world, and the narrative. It also incorporated the Mandala Effect, which was viral at the time.
As I look back on it, I am grateful that show never got made. If it had been, Thærf would not exist in her current form.
I always felt that there was more dramatic potential with this character. After I released my first feature, which was a straight forward comedy, I really wanted to dive into something more serious and more thrilling; I wanted to give the audience a scare instead of a laugh. So I brought back Thærf and gave her a dark transformation!
While this short film is a full story with a satisfying ending, it is also a proof-of-concept for a feature. There is so much more story to tell!
I am beyond proud of everyone involved with this film, and am eagerly looking forward to sharing it with the world! It was a blast to make, and the cast and crew absolutely brought their A-game!
I am also eternally grateful to the people who donated to the crowdfunding campaign and made this film possible. THÆRF would not exist without them!
It is my goal to see a feature-length presentation of THÆRF on the big screen!
